Biography
My original training
is as a veterinary
surgeon; I also hold a first class degree in physiology. I
was brought up in Berkshire, but moved to the Newmarket area to carry out research into a muscle disorder in horses. I left
this post to become a freelance illustrator and designer,
specialising in veterinary projects, at one time
having three employees.
In 2000 I had acupuncture for frequent,
severe
headaches. I was so fascinated by the theory that early in 2001 I started to train in traditional
Chinese acupuncture. This course however failed to maintain my whole-hearted enthusiasm, so I left
after a bit more than a year to study biodynamic massage and
body psychotherapy, having been inspired by the work I received
from biodynamic psychotherapist, Sally Byford.
During this time I held part time jobs at Papworth and
Addenbrooke's Hospitals.
I eagerly launched my biodynamic
massage
practice in summer 2003 and have offered sessions ever since.
Chi Kung was
integrated into the acupuncture course, however my early
experiences of it were not easy; at one point I ended up
receiving acupuncture from the college principals
because so much got stirred up! I was nevertheless curious about these
reactions and keen to experience the
benefits that others reported, so continued to explore Chi
Kung, mostly on my own.
After a couple
of years I found my way to Chris
Chappell in
London, seeking help for excruciating sciatica which no other
therapy had really managed to touch. After a single one-to-one session I was 80% pain free, and I've studied
with him since that time.
In
addition to my massage and chi kung teaching practices, I am a
part time research assistant based at Addenbrooke's
Hospital and the Wellcome
Trust Sanger Institute, and I still do some freelance
illustration
and design work.
I
enjoy exercising and caring for my horse, 'Ciara', gardening
and photography,
mountain biking, walking and
reading; I live in an energy-saving house. For
