Dragon and Tiger Chi Kung is an ancient, gentle yet profound, seven movement healing exercise system not dissimilar in style to Tai Chi.

It's fun and easy to learn and can be carried out in as little as 15-20 minutes. It's a powerful daily practice!

Dragon and Tiger originates from the famous Shaolin Monastery in China. Thought to trace back over 1000 years, its movements are similar to the graceful and gentle choreography of Taoist Tai Chi but also incorporate features more typical of Buddhist exercise practices. Originally it would have been used by the monks to maintain and enhance physical health and to prepare mind and body for meditation.

“Of the hundreds of qigong systems which I have personally studied or researched, in my opinion Dragon & Tiger is the easiest complete system to rapidly learn and gain great benefit from. Even when done imperfectly and by people who have limited range of motion or are wheelchair bound, the exercise is immensely beneficial.” [B.K.Frantzis]

When you do Dragon and Tiger, several things things happen:

  • You use your hands and your intent to trace energy channels (meridians) in your body in order to open them up and restore health. Dragon and Tiger has been used in hospitals in China as both a primary treatment for cancer and a way of alleviating the effects of radiation and chemotherapy. It can be beneficial for a wide range of conditions. Its healing abilities and its gentle nature make it is excellent for maintaining health well into old age.
  • You move your body slowly and gracefully, always maintaining relaxation through movement. This is an extraordinarily effective way of exercising; perhaps strangely, the more you relax and the more you start to feel your way into the movements, the harder it is (at least to start with) ... this is why it's challenging enough for everyone from the fittest sportsperson to the frailest of the elderly. The gentleness of the movement means that it is suitable for people of all ages and abilities. It is not intended in any ways to put undue strain on injuries or weaknesses: in fact, it does quite the opposite, it slowly restores integration of movement so that your whole body becomes "re-wired" to move as a coordinated whole. The slowness of the movement also increases bodily awareness so that you can take better care of yourself. Would you continue to drive your car with a red warning light showing? ... yet so many of us continue to push ourselves on a daily basis.
  • Your body starts to open up, making it a much nicer place to live in, and a much more sensitive and efficient machine.
  • You learn to focus. This helps to calm your mind, smooth your emotions, and helps you to deal with many different life situations.

You become what you practise. Why not practise life at a slower pace - learn to relax and really live in your body? Come and learn Dragon and Tiger!

"There's more than enough in Dragon and Tiger to make it a complete and fulfilling daily practice. As time goes on, my experience with it deepens and the benefits I receive increase. It has really helped to open up my body, it has increased my self-awareness and it has helped me to stand my ground with people." [Vicki Martin]
