Welcome to my web site

I originally trained as a veterinary surgeon, qualifying from the University of Liverpool in 1991. I also hold an honours degree in physiology.

In 1993, after a period of time in equine research at the Animal Health Trust in Newmarket, I surprised many by launching myself into self-employment as a medical illustrator and designer. As a teenager, I had been aware of artistic talents but it wasn't until a chance meeting with a medical illustrator that I became inspired to pursue this career. Initially I was very much 'learning on the job' but have since enjoyed many years of work on varied projects including educational CD-ROMs, textbook and magazine illustrations, logos, printed publications and web sites.

In 2001 I diversified again, taking part time jobs at Addenbrooke's Hospital (clinical audit coordinator for paediatrics) and Papworth Hospital (clinical research assistant). I also started training in traditional Chinese acupuncture at the College of Integrated Chinese Medicine, but left during the second year in order to train in biodynamic massage therapy at the Cambridge Body Psychotherapy Centre.

I now earn my living in three ways: from illustration and design work, from my biodynamic massage practice, and as a part time research assistant at Addenbrooke's Hospital (working on a genetics project).

These pages describe my illustration and design services.
