about me

I do what I do because the approaches of biodynamic massage and Somatic Experiencing have given me so much personal benefit and because I gel with them as a therapist.

I enjoy what I do and am blessed that my clients gain from my work.

My original training is as a veterinary surgeon; I also hold a first class degree in physiology. After a brief time working in equine research, I was a self-employed medical illustrator for nearly a decade. I have also held part-time posts in audit/research at Papworth and Addenbrooke's Hospitals.

In 2000 I started to receive acupuncture for frequent and severe headaches. I was so fascinated by the theory that I started to train in traditional Chinese acupuncture. The course however failed to maintain my whole-hearted enthusiasm so I left it to study biodynamic massage, having been inspired by experiences as a client in body psychotherapy.

I eagerly launched my biodynamic massage practice in summer 2003 and have offered sessions ever since.

In 2002 I travelled to Dublin, Ireland, for a weekend introductory course in Somatic Experiencing (SE). It was obvious that this therapy was relevant to me (I had major surgery on the day of my birth), but unfortunately it was not available in the UK at the time.

In the spring of 2010 I had the opportunity to commence travelling regularly to the USA, both for personal SE sessions and to attend SE trainings: this has been a homecoming for me both personally and professionally.

Books I've been reading  recently:
  • Social Intelligence - Daniel Goleman
  • The Left Hand of Darkness - Ursula LeGuin
  • Mindless Eating - Brian Wansink

December 2011

I have also attended courses on a range of other therapeutic approaches, including counselling skillls, neuro-linguistic programming (NLP), Hakomi, body psychotherapy, Chi Kung, traditional Chinese medicine, Zero Balancing (ZB) and Anatomy Trains. I have studied with spiritual teachers including Adyashanti, Stephan Bodian, Jon Bernie, Mukti, Mooji, Tony Parsons and Byron Katie. I enjoy riding and caring for my horse, Ciara; training and exercising my German Shorthaired Pointer, Seren; gardening and growing my own vegetables; cycling (both on and off road), reading and photography.
I am currently learning Chinese Brush Painting and I have started birdwatching.
